A girl’s day out in Malta: Carisma Spa & Wellness Review

by in Malta

Carisma Spa Intercontinental Hotel MaltaI can still feel the warm marble on my back and smell the soft relaxing scent of the foam used during the traditional Turkish massage that I had the pleasure of experiencing at Carisma Spa and Wellness in St Julian’s, Malta last week. The residual effects of this luxe spa experience is baby-soft skin, a calm mind and a not-so-usual Malta experience. While I’ve enjoyed massages and spa treatments around the world, nothing truly compares to steaming, exfoliating, massaging and shampooing at a Turkish hammam…and Carisma Spa knows how to do that expertly.

While my travel companions were out exploring and experiencing what Malta is known for: the sun, the sand, the cliffs, the water-sports and the history, I was searching for the more calming, feminine side of Malta. A day out that would suite any traveling woman which included a morning of swimming, Turkish Hammam Maltasteaming, massaging and relaxing at Carisma Spa and Wellness at the Intercontinental Hotel and an afternoon of desserts, shopping and sightseeing.

Carisma Spa & Wellness features the usual wet and dry saunas, fitness centre and swimming pool as in many hotel chains. The magic of Carisma is behind the door marked Turkish Bath Hammam, where I was greeted by peaceful music, lounge chairs, tea and the steamy hammam itself, where I was pampered and cared for as in most girl’s dreams. Carisma would be the place to go for a classy stagette, a pre-nuptial bride’s party, or hen weekend in Malta (as it’s known to my British-English speaking friends); a place to congregate and share intimate and convivial moments with friends.

With a lovely post-hammam glow on, I set out to Mdina via Malta Sightseeing bus in search of dessert for lunch – Fontanella’s famous strawberry meringue accompanied by incredible views – and more sightseeing, shopping and people-watching, ending at St Anne’s Square in Sliema, with a refreshing spritzer in hand and more miraculous Malta views. Have you ever had a foam massage at a Turkish hammam? This video will give you a closer look at what to expect from the luxurious, tranquil hammam at Carisma Spa & Wellness.

  1. From Milosz Zak:

My cousin flew to Malta for vacation, and he absolutely loved it. Everyone who visits comes back with an incredible new set of photos. Loved reading this one.
