Canada, My Love, My Freedom

by in canada, travel, vancouver

Xq1fWsLIt’s true. Absence does make the heart grow fonder. At least in this case.  The longer I am away from Canada, the more I love and appreciate the colourful, inclusive, safe and just plain cool country which I call home. Being Canadian grants me so many freedoms; to be me, to travel the world, to work for myself, to own my home and to pursue my dreams. Like any good partner in life, Canada gives me security, it lets me go and explore and welcomes me back with open arms. It supports me and carries me, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. It is everything a person could want from a lifelong partner and ally.

So on this day, which I celebrate at home, in one of the best cities in the world, I thank Canada for this freedom and loyalty and wish, with typical reserved Canadian pride, a very Happy Canada Day to all my friends and family here and abroad.

And in case you haven’t already seen or heard it, here is a little piece of modern Canadiana that is sure to make every Canadian’s heart swell.

Pushed back in my seat
Look out my window
There goes home
That ball of shiny blue
Houses everybody anybody ever knew

So sing your song I’m listening
out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation
From the International Space Station
You’d know why I want to get back soon
