Oh la la! My Favourite French Cinema

by in art, france, language

Vive la France! – the birthplace of cinema and the 3rd largest film market in admissions and revenue in the world; its films are often overlooked by the brain-candy fed leaders, the United States. Contrary to much of American cinema (the word cinema seems to overstate the quality of films coming from state-side), French cinema is wonderfully sentimental, poignant, with enchanting language (everything sounds better in French, non?), enticing backdrops and beautiful cinematography which makes, for me, an overall enjoyable way to study French. If you disagree, I dare you (cap ou pas cap!) to watch these films below and feel nothing.  French films often touch on the very human, tender side of existence and even evoke emotion amongst the strongest French men (oxymoron, I know).  In chronological order, below are some of the best French films I’ve seen recently including an animation! Bon spectacle!

Jeux d’enfants / Cap ou pas cap (Love Me If You Dare) 2003

Paris, je t’aime (Paris, I love you) 2006

Le premier jour du reste de ta vie (The First Day of the Rest of Your Life) 2008

Le hérisson (The Hedgehog) 2009

Les petits mouchoirs (Little White Lies) 2010

Une vie de chat (A Cat in Paris) 2010

De vrais mensonges (Beautiful Lies) 2010

Un amour de jeunesse (Goodbye, First Love) 2011

Intouchables (The Intouchables) 2011
