Koko Mosaico: Colour & Love in Ravenna

by in art, italy

Last June, while spending a fascinating and leisurely week in Rimini, a seaside village in the beautiful Emilia Romagna region of Italy, I discovered a family full of art, colour and love in the nearby town of Ravenna. Luca Barberini, owner of Koko Mosaico, is a young, talented and already renowned Italian mosaic artist. While the art itself is traditional, Luca’s eye, design and talent is anything but; his work full of life, irony and colour, Luca’s designs reflect a contemporary and very creative mind.

Luca balances his time guiding apprentices in this intricate art, fashioning commissioned works for the likes of John Lasseter, creative director of Pixar, and also as Director of Design of a 600+ sq. meter project at a mosque in Oman. Amongst all of the art and work, is a young family man with a great passion for his also very artistic wife and two beautiful children.  Here’s a look at my visit to the Koko Mosaico studio and with the Barberini family.

I visited Koko Mosaico as part of the Blogville project sponsored by APT Emilia Romagna. To learn more about all there is to see, taste and do in the region visit Tourism Emilia Romagna.
