Christmas in Paris & The Legend Hotel

by in france, hotels, paris

lobbyThe Legend Hotel is lovely; shiny and modern and I was so happy to call it my home for a few sparkly Christmas days in Paris. Elegant and enchanting, I was greeted by a decor featuring clever owl lamps, artful tree branches, mini-lights and friendly front desk staff that smiled and appeased me by letting me practice my French.

Upon check-in, the hotel gifted me a beautiful bottle of champagne with two glasses because “on ne sait jamais“. However, I was in Paris on my own for these days, a short escape from my current place of living in Rouen, and a chance to fulfill what may well be most woman’s fantasy – Christmas in Paris. I had a plan and that plan included creating some unforgettable Christmas moments in this incredible city and at this wonderful hotel.

I went directly to the Christmas market at the Champs Elysee to wander and absorb the bustling atmosphere, drink some hot mulled wine and to catch a glimpse of the schedule of the Grande Roue de Paris for Christmas Day, as I had every intention to ride the ferris wheel in the morning.

I returned in the early evening to my garden suite room, my peaceful escape from the surge of the city, and devoured a dinner of chocolate fondant cake and champagne while I readied myself for Christmas eve mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. The moon was fantastic and the line to enter the Cathedral not long; it was a beautiful night. I found myself well-seated with locals and tourists, everyone wanting to share in this holy night in this magical city. One hour later, the boisterous organs piped us out of the church with spirit while new crowds filed in for the next service. I wandered along the Seine while I enjoyed a late-night crepe and watched Christmas go by in Paris.

Like a child on Christmas morning I awoke early, and after a perfect breakfast of pastries, fruit and strong coffee in my room, I went to ride the Grand Roue! While windy and cold this Christmas day, the views were beautiful. This was my first time to see Paris from such heights and the right time to take some incredible photographs. As the weather worsened, I was thankful for my afternoon plan, to cozy down in one of the movie theatres on the Champs Elysee and lose myself in the Life of breakfastPi.

I still had one day left in Paris and looked forward to one more sleep in my lovely room, with a vast menu of pillows and comfort, and one more delicious breakfast at Legend Hotel. The next day was the day I decided to tackle Montmartre, far from the 4th arrondissement and the shopping district where Legend Hotel is located, Montmartre was a place I had not been to in 15 years. Like many parts of Paris, it was relatively unchanged, still vibrating with life, art, music and tourists. I discovered another Christmas market at the foot of Sacre Coeur so after another cup of hot wine, the sun was beginning to set and so was my energy.  I knew it was time to put Christmas in Paris away and head home to Normandy.

My stay in Paris was made absolutely dreamy & totally possible thanks to the Legend Hotel & Girls Guide To Paris.
